What is a TCK?
A Third Culture Kid (TCK) is a term created by Dr. Ruth Useem to describe “a child who spends a significant period of time during their developmental years growing up in a culture outside their parents’ culture.” (David Pollock – 1986)
What was ITCKC ’23
Building upon the initiatives of ICMK from the 1980s, ITCKC sought to be a hub bringing together those interested in TCK experiences and issues- to share personal stories, global initiatives, resources, and research. There was a special emphasis on equipping under-resourced regions and inspiring the next generation of TCK Caregivers.
We enjoyed fantastic plenary sessions and workshops. There was space for gathering to exchange personal stories and needs. Presenters were from diverse cultural backgrounds. All in the setting of the beautiful resort.

Vision
For Third Culture Kids (TCKs) from diverse countries and cultures to be well-supported and thriving from cradle to grave.
Mission
A hub bringing together Adult TCKS and TCK caregivers to share global initiatives, resources, and research – with a focus on equipping under-resourced regions and inspiring the next generation of TCK caregivers.
Our Purposes and Goals
This conference will have Christian underpinnings in keeping with the Shepherds’ Council but is broadly inclusive and welcomes all Adult TCKs (ATCKs – broadly defined) and those involved in caring for TCKs in whatever capacity. The conference organizers will intentionally prioritize ATCKs, TCK caregivers and organizational leaders from under-resourced groups and regions of the majority world. The conference will focus on younger generations of ATCKs to embrace the challenge and responsibility of caring for younger TCKs and ATCKs especially in those regions where such care is lacking.

The Planning Team
With this group spanning 6 continents… figuring out zoom meeting schedules is a logistical challenge.

Shepherds’ Council
ITCKC is sponsored by the Shepherds’ Council. A diverse group of global TCK leaders launched in 2019.
