Hotels for Early Arrivals/Late Departures

  • Suan Bua Hotel and Resort: It’s beautiful and peaceful, but a bit pricy and out of the way compared to other accommodations in the city. Requesting additional nights costs approximately $50USD/night and is payable at check-out to the hotel. Extra nights do not include lunch or dinner (breakfast is included).
  • Note: A room change at Suan Bua may be required before/after the conference.
  • Late Check Out is available at Suan Bua for those who have evening flights. Let us know at registration table on check in.
  • Other Hotel Options: Any of your favorite travel sites will be able to help you find some of the very affordable accommodations in Chiang Mai.
We recommend: Airport Greenery, Noble Place, or Hop Inn Chiang Mai Airport (these are $30 USD/night). This dorm-style accommodation where you pay for just a bed but share the room with others ($10 USD/night) may be worth a try, but we don’t yet have a recommendation for it: The Best One Chiangmai.

SIM Cards (Revised 10/17) – Apologies. Free cards are no longer being offered

Upon arrival in the International Terminal, tourist SIM cards are available by baggage claim. Most people find 8 day is sufficient for a short stay in Thailand.

No credit card is required, but a Passport will need to be presented. We recommend getting AIS SIM card as their signal is better at Suan Bua, but DTAC and other work too (just not as strong of a signal).

Note, not all phones are compatible with the Thai Cell Network.

TukTuks

These you encounter in the street. Best for shorter trip around Chiang Mai with 1-3 people. It is important to negotiate cash price before getting in.

Songthaews

A good option for longer distance travel, especially outside the city or for larger groups. This option is better for the longer trip from the airport to the conference center.
